Without diving into a Big Tech discussion (just yet), we wanted to share a few tips that have helped us as individuals working in digital marketing. The best part? They don't cost a thing...
Here are 8 tips you can start TODAY...
🍅 Pomodoro Technique: For when you're really distracted, set a timer on your screen or watch for 25 minutes. Commit to one project or task and GO until time's up. When the human mind can "see" a finish line, we are more likely to stay committed. (That's why runners are told to look 20 feet ahead)
🌲 Nature ONLY Walks: Leave your phone behind and go for 20-minute a walk. If you have a park or trail, even better. 20 minutes gets us over the 15-minute hump.
📦 Box Breathing: GREAT anxiety reducer for when you are stuck to the screen (Zoom, call, focused task). Inhale 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds, exhale 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds, continue. See? It makes a perfect square!
📅 Planned Check-Ins: Schedule 1-2 times a week you KNOW you'll check in with a colleague, friend, boss, or accountability buddy. Creating space to debrief and "Just Be." This is not a work zone (tho we would argue it is considered 'the work'). It is a release and re-align zone.
🗂 Close Your Tabs: Tabs = perceived responsibility. Take some weight off your shoulders and get focused on one tab at a time. That's right...press that X. You won't even remember what you had open.
🚿 Take A Shower: Water is purifying and wonderful. If you have time for a bath...Enough said there.
💫 Tap into Your Emotions: Scan the past hour and see what happened. When we're overwhelmed by digital stimuli, we aren't present to our emotions. I.E. That annoying email? It stuck with us emotionally, but when we moved on to Instagram 30 seconds later, our minds forgot what upset us. Get to know your emotions on the Emotional Guidance Scale.
💃 SHAKE. It. Off: Many cultures use limb shaking as a way to oxidize the blood and release stuck emotions. We can look at it simply as getting your endorphins from daily exercise or literally shaking out your arms and legs for 10 minutes.
